The Grand Inaugural Launch of the HKU Advanced Technology Fellowship Programme
A Gateway for Entrepreneurs to Engage with Frontier AI Knowledge
On 17 January 2025, the HKU Musketeers Foundation Institute of Data Science welcomed the first cohort of participants of the HKU Advanced Technology Fellowship Programme at The University of Hong Kong. The launch took place alongside the 2025 Inaugural Hong Kong AI and Frontier Technology Forum, held under the theme “AI Vision: Opportunities for a Brighter Future”.
The Forum was officiated by Prof Max Shen, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of HKU; Mr KC Leong, one of the Institute’s benefactors from the Musketeers Education and Culture Charitable Foundation; Ms Lillian Cheong, JP, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government; and Prof Yi Ma, Director of HKU IDS and Professor, Chair of Artificial Intelligence.
Keynote and Roundtable Highlights
The Forum featured keynote speeches and roundtable discussions by speakers from academia, industry, investment, and government. Topics included AI for scientific discovery, domain-specific large models, technology-driven AI architecture, multimodal AI, digital assets, and Hong Kong’s role in supporting technology enterprises.
Invited speakers included Prof Yuan Xie, Prof Zhiquan Luo, Dr Zheng Zhang, Dr Tieyan Liu, Mr Duncan Chiu, Mr Wensheng Cai, Ms Winnie Han, and other academic and industry leaders.
Launch of the ATFP Journey
The Forum marked the official launch of the inaugural cohort of ATFP. The programme is designed to connect participants’ industry experience with academic knowledge, frontier technology insight, and cross-sector exchange.
