About Me
Professor Boris Babic is HKU-100 Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong, jointly appointed in the Musketeers Foundation Institute of Data Science, the Department of Philosophy, and (by courtesy) the Faculty of Law, from Fall 2023.Ā HeĀ alsoĀ serves as anĀ occasional visiting professor in the Decision Sciences department atĀ INSEAD.Ā
Professor Babic received a JD, cum laude, fromĀ Harvard Law School, an MS inĀ StatisticsĀ and a PhD inĀ Philosophy, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also practiced law atĀ Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLPĀ in Los Angeles, USA. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at theĀ California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Professor Babicās primary research interests are in Bayesian inference and decision-making, ethics, law, and policy of artificial intelligence and machine learning, especially in medical applications. His research has been published extensively in leading journals such asĀ Science,Ā Nature Machine Intelligence,Ā Nature Digital Medicine, and theĀ Harvard Business Review.Ā
Professor BabicĀ will be on leave fromĀ theĀ University of Toronto, whereĀ he isĀ Assistant Professor in theĀ Department of StatisticsĀ and theĀ Department of PhilosophyĀ and a faculty fellow of theĀ Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology & Society.
